Beyond Graduation: GRC Students Explore What Comes Next

For some GRC students, the College and Career Fair confirmed plans they already had. For others, it opened doors they didn’t realize were available, including the possibility of going to college.
Hosted by GRC Counseling, the event brought together 40 college and university representatives, military recruiters, and career professionals to meet with our students.
“We had everything from horseshoeing school to colleges to military branches to the Kentucky Career Center,” said GRC counselor Mickey Little.
The fair also gave representatives a chance to interact directly with GRC students, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. According to Little, representatives complimented students on their behavior, focus, thoughtful questions, and overall interactions.
Following the event, students attended sessions with their school counselors to discuss what they had learned and how the information could shape their plans after graduation. Little said students reported gaining information they had not previously known and found the experience helpful as they worked toward their future goals.
“Many students reported that attending the event made them change their plans,” Little said. “Students said they realized that going to college is possible. Overall the day was a huge success and helped students gain a clearer understanding of what they want to pursue after high school."
