Awards announced in early March were formally presented Sunday at the Mr. and Miss Basketball ceremony in Lexington, where Teigh Yeast received the prestigious Donna LJ Murphy Award and joined Malachi Ashford as 10th Region Player of the Year.

Though these elite awards were already announced before the KHSAA State Tournaments began, Teigh and Malachi weren’t done. They both earned State Tournament MVP honors, leading GRC Hoops and the WinCity Cards to state championships over the past two weekends.

Congratulations to these outstanding student-athletes who exemplify Greatness and represent GRC, our district, and our community with honor and excellence.

The Donna LJ Murphy Award is an extremely prestigious honor for a Kentucky female basketball player. Ms. Murphy, left, was a record-setting player for Newport High School when girls' basketball was revived in the 1970s.

Winning the Donna LJ Murphy Award signifies that a player has distinguished herself as one of the state’s most exceptional athletes, recognized not only for outstanding performance on the court but also for leadership, character, and impact on the game.
