CCPS was honored to host Breakfast with the Chamber with around 100 community representatives enjoying great food and fellowship, along with some great prize giveaways.
"I’m ecstatic about the relationship we have with the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce," said Superintendent Dustin Howard. "We were able to host a breakfast to thank the entirety of the Chamber for their partnerships and support in growing greatness with our students. This is of the upmost importance because the role of workforce readiness lies with all of us in Clark County."
After attendees enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by CCPS Food Services, Superintendent Howard thanked those present for partnering with CCPS to grow greatness in our students.
"When it comes to internships and co-op opportunities for our students, we have to have partners who are engaged and willing to host our students," Mr. Howard said. "Now more than ever, I’m confident that our kids will have opportunities in local businesses right here in Clark County."
Chamber director Cindy Banks reiterated the value of the relationship the two entities share.
"It is a testament to the forward thinking of the current administration and staff and board of CCPS that they are not just willing but eager to welcome volunteers in our schools and at school activities," Ms. Banks said. "They also know they can receive help when it is needed. Years ago, many entities were in their own silos and it is a joy to see the schools, businesses, local government, and nonprofits all working together to implement new ideas to make the whole community better."
Our district's Family Resource Youth Services Center coordinators were introduced during the breakfast in recognition of their amazing work with our students and families, with much of this made possible by local business and organization partnerships.
Shoutout to Cassie Puckett, Sally McKinney, Latonia Bell, Skye Skinner-Brough, and the Food Services Department for helping make the event a huge success.
The breakfast brought together some of our best and brightest business leaders, educators, and community servants, and we appreciate our shared commitment to building a stronger community.
Ms. Banks pointed out a few ways the entire community benefits from the school district's ongoing collaboration with the Chamber:
Superintendent Howard and Administrative Assistant Latonia Bell serve on the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Several Chamber members and CCPS staff belong to Winchester Kiwanis, which sponsors the “Bringing up Grades” program in the third grades.
When the basketball teams went to state, the Chamber donated funds for game tickets to allow any students wishing to attend the game at Rupp Arena free admission.
Daily emails sent to Chamber members address events at the various schools making members aware of volunteer and sponsorship opportunities.
Education Day for Leadership Winchester is handled by the CCPS Central Office each year, with transportation for the day provided at no cost to the Chamber.
The breakfast is just another benefit to the partnership."This breakfast is one of the most attended of the year," Ms. Banks said. "Not only is the food, cooked by CCPS staff, superb, but our community is hungry to find out what is going on in the schools."
Mr. Howard said it's an honor to welcome business and community leaders in.
"I want to thank Chamber members as well as Cindy Banks and her staff for providing this opportunity for us to connect and collaborate," Mr. Howard said. "Only together can we create a world class workforce graduating from George Rogers Clark High School and representing Winchester and Clark County. Co Cards!"
