Engaged Citizens at Strode: Sweet Treats, Stronger Connections

A little candy, a lot of smiles, and a whole lot of community!
Strode Elementary brought the fun directly to families with its first Community Candy Crawl, turning a neighborhood gathering into an opportunity to build lasting connections.
Dozens of students and families visited the Candy Crawl in a parking lot off Hillcrest Drive where teachers, staff, and other volunteers, including the GRC Dance Team, handed out candy beside decorated trunks.
“Community is one of our Big Rocks this year, and our families play such a huge role in building that community,” said Principal Anitria Coston. “One of our focuses is finding ways to take events to our families, creating meaningful experiences and building relationships outside of the school day."
With strong participation from the Strode team and a wonderful turnout of students and families, the inaugural Community Candy Crawl was a success.
Strode plans to make the event an annual tradition and is already looking ahead to another opportunity to connect with families this spring in a different neighborhood within the school's district.
“We want to continue finding ways to connect with our families and build those relationships beyond the walls of Strode,” Coston said.
