Unbeaten. Unforgettable. GRC Football’s 1991 State Champions

GRC honored the 1991 KHSAA State Football Champion Cardinals during halftime Friday as the 35th anniversary of their undefeated 15-0 season approaches.
On December 6, 1991, GRC defeated St. Xavier 28-21 to capture the school’s only state football championship. We’re proud to honor these Cardinal legends and celebrate a season that will forever be part of Clark County history.
Facing powerhouse St. X at Louisville's Cardinal Stadium before more than 11,500 fans, the Cardinals won the championship in thrilling fashion.
After opening the scoring with Tim Hampton’s 74-yard touchdown run, GRC tied the game at 14 on Eric Clay's TD and a two-point conversion on a pass to Hampton from QB Jerome Embry.
Hampton’s two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns sealed the victory.
GRC's defense made one final stand, stopping St. X at the one-yard line on the last play of the game.
The Cardinals defeated both Trinity and St. Xavier in consecutive weeks during its championship run, adding to the historical significance of the title.
