When it comes to the arts, CCPS is ahead of the curve.
With strong arts and theatre programs in all schools at all levels, our students thrive in expression and creativity.
The district's first Theatre Camp celebrated our commitment to the arts in style.
In partnership with the Clark County Extension Office, Baker teachers Collin and Katie Berner directed the camp, which drew more than 50 young performers from across Clark County.
“Clark County Public Schools is all about growing greatness,” Ms. Berner said. “What better way to do that than theater? Theater teaches skills far beyond performance—teamwork, responsibility, and confidence."
Along with the great learning experience, the camp shined a spotlight on the great support for the arts throughout Clark County. "We're fortunate to have such strong arts, music, and theatre programs in all of our schools," she said.
The camp ended with a final performance to a packed Extension Office community room with the students showcasing what they had learned all week.
“It speaks volumes when you look in the audience and see our building administrators, the Superintendent, and Central Office Staff,” Ms. Berner added. “It’s one thing to say you support the arts; it’s another to show up and cheer them on.”

The Berners had been brainstorming for years on how to offer a special experience for youth interested in performance. “Our goals were simple,” said Mr. Berner. “Keep it affordable, bring in outside specialists, and most importantly, provide a fun and high-quality theatre education experience.”
Students engaged in workshops and rehearsals throughout the week, with theatre professionals from around the area teaching everything from set and costume design to storytelling and acting.
“We had a great group of students and instructors that made this a really special week," said Mr. Berner. "It was magical seeing students from across Clark County come together like this.”
Behind the scenes, a number of organizations pitched in to ensure the camp ran smoothly. Shonda Johnston and Maddie Hale from the Extension Office helped with logistics. The CCPS Summer Feeding Program, coordinated by Jennifer Muncy and Donna Finney, provided daily breakfast and lunch.
Campers left with excitement for the experience, and the Berners are already looking to the next one.
“This is just the beginning,” said Mr. Berner. “We’re thrilled to have created something meaningful for these students—and we can’t wait to do it again.”
