Two CCPS educators selected for Kentucky Innovative Teacher Fellowship

In their classrooms, Jasmin Perry and Nicole Preece are already focused on helping students become confident, engaged learners.
Now, the CCPS educators will have the opportunity to take that work beyond their schools and learn alongside innovative educators from across Kentucky.
Perry, a GRC English teacher, and Preece, a 4th grade teacher at Justice Elementary, were selected for the fifth cohort of the Kentucky Innovative Teacher Fellowship.
They will design, implement, reflect on, and share classroom projects that promote learner-centered practices. [Learn more about the Kentucky Innovative Teacher Fellowship.]
“I am eager to learn innovative ways to keep students engaged with reading and writing, especially those who struggle or feel disconnected from school, " Perry said.
Preece shares that excitement. “I hope to learn new ways to create meaningful, student-centered learning experiences and collaborate with innovative educators from across Kentucky.”
Through partnerships with Eastern Kentucky University and Murray State University, participants can earn up to nine graduate credit hours in Educational Leadership.
“Ultimately, I see this program as a chance to grow as a teacher and bring ideas for vibrant learning back to my students and colleagues at GRC to support our work around the Portrait of a Learner,” Perry said. “My main focus is to make sure every student who walks into my classroom leaves with the skills they need for the future and a genuine confidence in their ability to read and learn.”
For CCPS, it's the best of both worlds. Two of our teachers are joining educators across the state to explore better ways to support students. And they're bringing those ideas home.
“I’m excited to help strengthen the work we are already doing with our Portrait of a Learner competencies," Preece said, "helping students become confident communicators, critical thinkers, collaborators, and lifelong learners who are prepared for whatever comes next."
