With a sweep over Montgomery County in Wednesday night’s championship match, our Volleyball Cards secured their third district title in five seasons under Head Coach Kainan Hudson — and they did it in style.

From the first serve in the opening game to the final point, GRC played what Hudson called their “best volleyball of the season so far,” defeating both Bourbon County and Montgomery County in straight sets during the tournament.

“It always feels incredible when you get to call your team champions,” said Hudson. “What I truly enjoyed was how much of a team win we achieved last night. They played with so much energy, confidence, and consistency in volleyball fundamentals. The girls were at their best in all six sets of the tournament.”

Hudson noted that this group of athletes has been growing together for years, with many starting their high school volleyball journey when he first arrived in Winchester.

“This team has been very special,” he said. “Not only are they a complete group of great athletes, but they’re also young women I’ve seen grow and develop from day one. To see how far they’ve come has been amazing, and I just feel honored to be part of it with them.”

Having claimed their 10th overall district title since the program began, GRC now turns its attention to the 10th Region Tournament. As District champions, GRC will host the event.

“It will be huge for us to have the opportunity to compete for a region title at home,” Hudson said. “We look to build off this great week and continue to prepare and work hard to be in the best position to be competitive next week no matter who we draw.”

First round games of the 10th Region Volleyball Tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday (10/27 and 10/28), with the two semifinal games set on Wednesday (10/29), and the championship on Thursday, Oct. 30. Go Cards!
