Congratulations to Superintendent Dustin Howard on being selected as an Eastern Kentucky University/Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative “Experience Excellence” Superintendent of the Year.
The award was given April 16 at the CKEC Board of Directors meeting in Lexington. After accepting the award, Mr. Howard told the group he shares the honor with the Board of Education, CCPS staff, and Clark County as a whole.
Dr. Elizabeth Curran Smith, Dean of EKU’s College of Education and Applied Human Sciences, which sponsors the award, emphasizes how difficult it is to be a superintendent.
“There are so many stakeholders with different needs and opinions and in many places,” she said. “The superintendent also feels like a chief communications officer, city planner, and accountant on top of pursuing student achievement. By creating this award, we wanted to thank and honor superintendents for their dedication to their community and recognize those who were making a difference for students. The award honors those superintendents who are truly transforming their schools and communities—like Mr. Howard!”
CCPS received a one-time $1,000 scholarship to present to an EKU-bound senior in recognition of his achievement.
We are so fortunate to have such a great leader and are excited to see his greatness honored.
