Marty Jackson Way dedicated

It was cold outside, but the warmth of the late great Marty Jackson could not be overcome.

Family, friends, CCPS staff members, and fellow police officers gathered outside RDC Thursday as a sign was unveiled officially designating Marty Jackson Way as the road from Boone Avenue to the Cardinal Innovation Academy.

The road is not far from the spot where Jackson, a longtime community icon and wonderful friend to CCPS, dedicated decades to directing morning and afternoon traffic to keep students and families safe.

The Clark County Board of Education voted this fall to pay tribute to Jackson’s devoted service after his untimely passing.

“It’s my great honor and privilege to represent the Board of Education in naming the road to the Cardinal Innovation Center Marty Jackson Way,” Superintendent Dustin Howard said. “Chief Jackson was a prime example of the kind of person and human being we want our students to become while growing in the Clark County Public School System and after graduation.”

Establishing Marty Jackson Way is an ideal memorial to this everyday hero who served our community selflessly.

“As the principal of Robert D. Campbell, I spent many frigid and rainy mornings looking across the road and seeing Chief Jackson helping the students and families of Clark County by directing traffic on Boone Avenue,” said Superintendent Howard. “For eight years, I watched him give his time to help others in the morning and in the afternoon without fail. I want to thank his family for sharing him with us over the years. Marty set an example of greatness every day and modeled how to be genuinely caring, selfless, and a servant leader in our community.”
